  • Invited to accept the Mayoralty of Sutton Coldfield.
  • Played many parts in the athletic and social life of the Royal Borough.
  • For many years he was an indispensable member of the local cricket team.
  • Ranked as a bowler of high merit.
  • Mr. Terry was a Cardboard Box Manufacturer in partnership with his brother Mr. Walter. J. Terry
  • The business was located at 90 Leopold Street.
  • Few years ago they acquired a considerable piece of land in Bordesley Green Road and found it less cramped than they had been in their old quarters.
  • Mr. Arthur Terry is the accepted head of the trade in Birmingham, and had long represented the Birmingham and District Cardboard Box Manufacturers Association on the National Federation.
  • Mr. Terry, magistrate for the borough joined the Sutton Coldfield Council in 1921 and had been a most active member of that body.
  • He had served on the Education Committee and the Housing Committee of which for several years he was Chairman.
  • He was now Chairman of the Town Planning Committee, in addition to which he is on the Health and Building Committee, the Fire Brigade Committee, the Maternity and Child welfare Committee, the Public Assistance Committee, and the Assessment Committee.

  • He was a Magistrate.
  • Unanimously - 1933
  • Independent, enthusiastic and energetic.
  • Enjoyed playing Golf and had a good sense of humour.
  • Originally he came from Moseley and went to Tindel Street School.
  • He made cardboard boxes with his brother in Bordesley Green.
  • School first proposed land to cost £56,000, to serve North Sutton Coldfield to be ready for the autumn term 1963.
  • Alderman A E Terry listed on first set governors
  • Died on the 23rd of March 1967,  age 91.
  • Flags flew most on Council Houses - service held at Sutton Coldfield. Holy Trinity Parish Church 46 years as Councillor - longest serving member - Mayor 1933 - 35. Known as the "Father of Sutton Coldfield Council" 1st elected rep. Of Hill Ward March 19th 1921 served on every Council Committee - Education was his main interest.
  • Born Sparkbrook in 1875.
  • Married 1898.
  • 1900 founded family business of Terry & Terry Ltd. With his brother.
  • He and his wife played big role in establishing public library, and Oakhurst Maternity Unit, Four Oaks Working Men's Club.
  • 1937 became trustee of Municipal Charities Committee.
  • Keenly encouraged women to get involved and to serve on the Council.
  • Alderman C F Beaumont Edmunds said he was " a most imaginative person who was quietly cheerful and courteous at all times".
  • A memorial service was held at the school to remember him.
  • A freemason Hill Ward 1922 - 40.
